Melbourne Centre for International Business

Melbourne-Asia

The Australian Centre for International Business (ACIB) brings together core expertise on business and the business environment in Asia and Australia-Asia business relations.

Areas of particular focus are China, Japan and Southeast Asia. Members of the Centre also participate regularly in international conferences, seminars and consultancies. Details of their activities and publications can be found through the Members page.

The Centre is a partner with the Asian Economics Centre, the Asian Law Centre, the Melbourne Institute for Asian Languages and Societies (MIALS) and the Asialink Centre in the Melbourne Asia Policy Papers series.

The Melbourne Asia Policy Papers aims to strengthen Australia's engagement with Asia through dissemination of a series of non-partisan policy option papers. Four times a year, leading international scholars are invited to present a closed-door, Chatham House rules workshop examining different aspects of Australia's current relations with the Asia Pacific region. A select group of experts discusses a series of draft policy issues and options. Following the workshop, the invited author produces a concise, 10-page policy paper for publication and distribution among leading government, media, academic, and business people.

Workshops/papers have included "Australia's Alliance with America" (Professor Paul Dibb, Australian National University), "Enforcing International Human Rights Law Post September 11th" (Professor Tim McCormack, Asia Pacific Centre for Military Law) and "Australia's economic diplomacy in Asia" (Professor Peter Lloyd, Emeritus Professor, University of Melbourne).
